One of my favorite books is Cupcake by Rachel Cohn. What's yours?

I love, love, love Cyd Charisse...

Princess D said...

I do, too! I also love her brother Danny... CC is always describing the kinds of cupcakes that he makes. I wish I could try one!
I think those cupcakes are what got their grouchy neighbor, Max, to become friendly with CC.

What about short stories? Has anyone read any good short stories that could also be considered chick lit?

I really like that short story collection How They Met edited by David Levithan; I might not have read it, but I really liked Nick and Norah's and Naomi and Ely's...

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is next on my list of books I must read. It seems like such a good book!

i read the review on amazon. It seems really interesting, but I'm a little confused... Did the girl have brain surgery?

A great love story is "When Dreams Come True" by Eric and Leslie Ludy.

The girl has a brain surgery, but not in the sense you would think. It's very interesting.

another really good book is called my sister's keeper by jodi piccoult. its really cool. its not necessarily chick lit but it is filled with drama!!

its about this girl whose sister has leukemia. The sister needs bone marrow donations, but no one in their family is a match. so the parents have like a test tube baby that is a match. She has tons of operations and stuff all her life but she finally puts her foot down and hires a lawyer to like medically emancipate herself from her family...so she doesnt have to donate to her sister anymore. there are so many twists and turns in it...its great!!

sounds like a great story, mrs.brittanycullen! I'm adding that to my "to read list."

I have another question for everyone...
In your opinion, what is the difference between romance and chick lit? Is it the same thing?...

I loved My Sister's Keeper, and agree that everyone should read it. I used to read Sarah Dessen, and I like reading her books, but a week after I finished them, I wouldn't be able to remember much about them. Maybe the characters weren't memorable or maybe I just couldn't relate to the stories very well.

chick lit and romance are not the same thing
chick lit can include romance but also many other topics such as gossip, friendship and school stuff

Princess D said...

Don't you think romance can include all those things as well?

Anonymous said...

it could but that's not all it would be based on, the major plot would be the love story
in chick lit you would have different aspects to the book

Sorry to "interrupt" here, but if anyone knows of any Christian chick lit, I would love the recommendations!!! Thanks!

Princess D said...

These are a few Christian chick lit books I know about...'

Diary of a Teenage Girl-
a series by Melody Carlson

Beacon Street Girls-
a series by Annie Bryant

Jesus_Freak, you might want to check out this website about Christian chick lit.

has anyone ever read sweethearts? it's such an awesome book! it's by Sara Zarr.

Jesus_Freak said...

Cool! I loved that site, and will have to check out the Diary of a Teenage Girl. I have heard of it, but never really looked into it. I have read the BSG, and though I would not exactly call them Christian, they were OK.

To answer your earlier question, I think that the difference between romance and chick lit is that chick lit does not necessarily have to contain romance, and if it does, it usually is just there and is not the main focus of the story line. Romance, on the other hand, is focused mainly on, well, romance! It does not really contain as much drama, friendship, and the other things that make up good chick lit.

And, for really no apparent reason, I seem to associate chick lit more with teens, and romance with adults. I don't know why, I just kind of do.....
